Quick answer
The Federal Territory Mufti Department says a flower bath (mandi bunga) may be fine for health and freshness if there is no shirk or superstition (khurafat). It does not control who you marry, and bathing to remove bad luck is listed as khurafat. We found no set niat or recitation, and it is not mandi wajib.

Is a flower bath allowed in Islam? Women ask before a wedding, after confinement, or on spotting one on a spa menu. This guide is by the Roseville Spa Team at Roseville Confinement Villa & Spa, a postnatal confinement centre and women’s spa in Bangi Gateway, with every ruling linked to an official mufti website.
What does Islam say about flower baths?
The Federal Territory Mufti Department answered this in Al-Kafi li al-Fatawi Question 212 (14 March 2016), on a flower bath with kaffir lime (limau purut) to speed up finding a spouse.
The answer is conditional. Without shirk or khurafat, it may be fine as an effort, purely for health, freshness and lifting one’s spirits. But do not believe the bath can control your jodoh (life partner); ask Allah instead. What matters is the belief, not the flowers.
| Purpose or belief | What official sources say | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Cleanliness, fragrance, freshness | May be fine without shirk or khurafat | Al-Kafi Q212 |
| Believed to bring a spouse | Do not believe it controls jodoh; ask Allah | Al-Kafi Q212 |
| Removing bad luck | Listed as khurafat; ward off calamity with doa | Irsyad Hukum #228, Irsyad al-Hadith #210 |
| “7-flower bath” products | Permissible if ingredients are pure; the product has no power | Selangor Mufti |
| Bridal flower bath | Customs that do not contradict syarak are not rejected (our summary) | Irsyad Hukum #790 |
| Mandi wajib with flower water | Changed water cannot purify | Al-Kafi #1417, #684 |
Flower baths for jodoh and “buang sial”: what the muftis say
On finding a spouse, Al-Kafi Question 212 quotes Surah Ghafir, verse 60 (40:60): “Call upon Me, I will respond to you.” It also quotes a hadith narrated by al-Tirmidhi (no. 2516), graded hasan sahih by al-Tirmidhi, meaning: “If you ask, ask Allah; and if you seek help, seek help from Allah.”
On bad luck, Irsyad Hukum Series 269 states that there is no concept of bad luck (sial) in Islam, citing the hadith from Abu Hurairah against ill omens (tiyarah), narrated by al-Bukhari (no. 5770) and Muslim (no. 2220) (see Irsyad al-Hadith Series 210). It also calls seeing a bomoh to remove bad luck completely wrong.
A JAKIM guideline quoted in Irsyad Hukum Series 228 lists the customs of mandi limau, mandi Safar and bathing to remove bad luck as khurafat. Irsyad al-Hadith #210 advises warding off calamity with doa instead.
What about a 7-flower bath?
The Selangor State Mufti Department has said products such as a “7-flower bath” are permissible if the ingredients are pure and allowed by syarak, as the name is only marketing (e-Musykil, 2019). But believing a product has special power can harm your aqidah (faith), as only Allah brings benefit or harm.
Many such customs were passed down with good intentions. Respect the elders who keep them, and keep the bath about freshness.
Is there a niat or special recitation for a flower bath?
We found no specific niat, recitation or hadith for flower baths on the official mufti websites we checked, and Al-Kafi Question 212 mentions none; it simply advises doa to Allah. So this article lists no niat, doa or recitation. If a practice seems doubtful, ask an ustazah or your state mufti office.
A flower bath is not mandi wajib
This matters if your nifas or period has just ended. Al-Kafi #1417 says purification needs air mutlak (plain water). Air mutaghayyir, plain water changed by something mixed in such as rose water or soap, is pure but cannot purify. Al-Kafi #684 judges the change by colour, smell and taste.
Our summary (not a fatwa): take mandi wajib with plain water first, then enjoy a flower or milk bath if you like. When a new mother can pray again is covered in confinement in Islam.
Tip from the Roseville team
If your period or nifas has just ended, take mandi wajib before coming to the spa. When booking, tell us if you are pregnant, have just given birth, or have any allergies.
Bridal flower baths: can the custom continue?
We found no specific fatwa on bridal flower baths. On the general principle, Irsyad Hukum Series 790 explains that community practices which do not contradict syarak should not be rejected, as things are permissible by default unless there is evidence against them.
Our summary (not a fatwa): a bridal flower bath for cleanliness and freshness can continue, without believing it decides your marriage or luck. Choose a private setting.
Milk bath: what is it for, and what milk is used?
A spa milk bath is a soak in water mixed with milk, for comfort and freshness. The benefits of a flower or milk bath are simple: the scent and a quiet rest. We make no health claims.
Irsyad Hukum Series 377 says using pure milk, such as goat’s or cow’s milk, in soap is permissible by default. Our summary (not a fatwa): the same applies to a milk bath. It leans against breast-milk soap, citing JAKIM’s 86th Shariah expert panel, which does not allow breast milk in cosmetics.
Ingredients differ between spas, so ask first.

Frequently asked questions
Is a flower bath allowed in Islam?
Al-Kafi Question 212 from the Federal Territory Mufti Department says a flower bath may be fine for health and freshness if there is no shirk or khurafat (superstition). What must go is the belief that it controls marriage or removes bad luck. For your case, ask your state mufti office.
Can a flower bath help you find a spouse?
The Federal Territory Mufti Department advises against believing a flower bath controls jodoh, quoting Surah Ghafir (40:60) and a hadith narrated by al-Tirmidhi (no. 2516): if you ask, ask Allah. Bathing to feel fresh is fine, but a spouse is asked of Allah, not of flowers.
Does a flower bath bring good luck or remove bad luck?
No. Irsyad Hukum Series 269 states that there is no concept of bad luck in Islam, and a JAKIM guideline quoted in Irsyad Hukum Series 228 lists bathing to remove bad luck as khurafat. For warding off calamity, Irsyad al-Hadith Series 210 recommends doa.
Is there a niat or special recitation for a flower bath?
We found none on the official mufti websites we checked, and Al-Kafi Question 212 mentions none. Its advice is to make doa to Allah directly. If someone offers a recitation of unclear origin, ask an ustazah or your state mufti office first.
What is a milk bath at a spa for?
It is a soak for comfort and a fresh feeling, not a spiritual practice or medical care. Irsyad Hukum Series 377 says pure milk, such as goat’s or cow’s milk, in soap is permissible by default. At Roseville Muslimah Spa, book on WhatsApp and ask what milk is used.
