Can a husband stay in a confinement centre? Couples ask us this often, as husbands usually share in the decision. This guide is from the Care Lady team at Roseville Confinement Villa & Spa, a Muslim-friendly confinement centre in Bangi Gateway, Selangor.
Can your husband stay in a confinement centre?
It depends on the centre you choose, because each one sets its own rules on overnight stays, visiting hours and extra charges. At Roseville, the policy is:
| Who | Roseville policy | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Husband | May stay throughout the confinement | No extra charge |
| Children | May stay with their mother | Supervised by family so mothers and other guests can rest |
| Family and friends | May visit during visiting hours | 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm and 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm |
Visiting hours are set so mothers have enough time and space to rest quietly. This policy is also on our FAQ page.
Why does it help when a husband stays during confinement?
A staying husband provides emotional support, helps with daily tasks and learns baby care. Malaysia’s MyGOV portal advises husbands to give their wives emotional support during confinement to help prevent depression. WHO also recommends involving men during pregnancy, childbirth and after birth, provided the mother’s choices and decisions are respected.
- Emotional support: praise and encourage her, and mind the older child while she breastfeeds. The NHS says praise and encouragement can build a breastfeeding mother’s confidence.
- Learning baby care: Roseville’s 24-hour baby care includes swaddling and a baby bath demo, so he is better prepared at home.
- Errands: documents, birth registration and driving her to follow-up appointments; the NHS says mothers usually cannot drive for a few weeks after a caesarean. See our C-section guide.
Husbands need to look after their mental health too
The NHS says fathers and partners can also get depression after a baby arrives. If he feels low for a long time, he should see a doctor.
When to see a doctor
- She feels low, cannot cope or cannot sleep even when she is able to rest: see a doctor. Thoughts of harming herself or the baby: get emergency help.
- After a C-section: severe pain, heavy vaginal bleeding, a wound that is redder, swollen or leaking pus, shortness of breath, or a painful, swollen lower leg: contact a doctor straight away.
- Baby looks yellow within 24 hours of birth: get emergency help. Jaundice not improving, dark yellow pee or pale poo: see a doctor urgently.
Roseville is not a clinic. If a check-up is needed, we help arrange an appointment at your chosen clinic or hospital.
What should a husband bring to a confinement centre?
He only needs his own clothes and personal items. Roseville provides towels, a telekung, body wash and shampoo, and every room has a qibla marker and a prayer mat.
- Everyday clothes, sleepwear and a kain pelikat for prayer.
- Work clothes, if he commutes to the office.
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, shaver and other personal items.
- Phone charger, a long cable and earphones.
- His MyKad and the documents for birth registration.
The four daily confinement meals are for the mother; ask us about additional meals (at extra cost) for him. Laundry is chargeable. For the mother and baby, see what to bring to a confinement centre.
Tip from the Roseville team
Keep his bag separate, so he can leave early for work without waking his wife and baby.
Can a working husband commute from a confinement centre?
Yes, if the distance is manageable. Based on OpenStreetMap and OSRM routing, Kajang, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya are within about 30 minutes’ drive without traffic; actual times depend on traffic.
| Destination | Driving distance (approx.) | Time without traffic (about) |
|---|---|---|
| Kajang town | 10.2 km | 13 minutes |
| Putrajaya (Precinct 1) | 12.0 km | 16 minutes |
| Cyberjaya | 21.3 km | 29 minutes |
| Hospital Kajang (follow-up appointments) | 10.9 km | 13 minutes |
| Hospital Putrajaya (follow-up appointments) | 15.7 km | 20 minutes |

Try the drive once during peak hours before the birth. Park in basement B1 of Plaza Bangi Perdana (next to Panda Mart) and take the lift straight to Level 2; parking is charged at the building’s rates. While he works, the care lady looks after the baby 24 hours a day. Further away? See confinement centres near Kajang, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

Can you bring your children? Etiquette for sharing the space
Yes. At Roseville, children may stay with their mother, supervised by family; children aged 12 and under must be supervised at all times. As several mothers and babies rest at the same time, follow these simple rules:
- Supervise children at all times, especially in shared areas.
- Respect privacy and aurat: knock first, stay in your room and keep quiet at night. See our guide to a Muslim-friendly confinement centre.
- Wash your hands before holding the baby, as the NHS advises. Anyone with a cold sore should not kiss the baby.
- Anyone with a cold, fever or cough should keep away from the baby, as the NHS advises for newborns.
- No smoking near the baby. The NHS says no one should smoke in the same room as a baby.
Tip from the Roseville team
Feeling sleepy while holding the baby at night? Put the baby back in the cot. The NHS advises never sleeping on a sofa or armchair with a baby.
7-day paternity leave: how should husbands plan their time?
In Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan, eligible private sector employees receive 7 consecutive days of paid paternity leave starting from the day their wife gives birth, part of which may be spent in hospital. Conditions, the public sector, Sabah and Sarawak are covered in our maternity leave guide.
- Before the birth: enter your due date in the Free Confinement Plan and share it with your husband.
- During his leave: hospital discharge, birth registration and check-in; afterwards, he commutes and returns at night.
- Check-out day: reserve a day of annual leave to take mother and baby home.
If your baby arrives early or late, or stays longer in hospital, let us know so we can adjust your check-in date, subject to room availability.

- Can children stay or visit, and is there an age limit?
- What are the visiting hours?
- Can he leave early and return late? Is parking available?
