How to choose a confinement centre location: near the hospital, family or your husband’s work?
Choose a location that makes three journeys easy: follow-up checks for mother and baby, family visits, and your husband’s commute. The centre nearest home is not always the right one. List your clinic, family home and husband’s workplace, then compare driving times from each centre you are considering.
Near your clinic or hospital for follow-up checks
Malaysia’s MyGOV portal says nurses will make regular home visits after delivery, and mothers must have a clinic check-up one month after childbirth. Staying outside your home area? Give your klinik kesihatan (government health clinic) your confinement address and ask how follow-up checks will work.
A baby with jaundice needs a doctor’s assessment; the NHS advises an urgent appointment if a baby over 24 hours old may have jaundice. Bring your baby’s health record book to every clinic or hospital visit (Ministry of Health advice on MyGOV).
After a C-section, the NHS says you will not be able to drive for a few weeks, possibly around 6 weeks, so consider the travel distance for whoever will be driving you. See our guide to confinement after a C-section.
Easy for family to visit
Visiting hours at Roseville are 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm and 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm, by appointment, so mothers can rest in privacy. The evening slot suits working family members: around 13 minutes from Kajang and 16 minutes from Putrajaya. Children may stay too, under family supervision.
Your husband’s commute
Your husband may stay with you throughout your confinement at no extra charge. The drive between Roseville and Kajang or Putrajaya is 13 to 16 minutes without traffic; Cyberjaya is around 29 minutes. Read can a husband stay at a confinement centre and our guide to 98 days of maternity leave.
Tip from the Roseville team
Test the drive from home or hospital to Bangi Gateway during your husband’s usual commute time, and combine it with your villa visit: real distance and real rooms in one afternoon.
What happens if mother or baby needs a check-up during confinement?
Roseville is a postnatal care centre, not a clinic, and there is no doctor on the premises. Keep your usual clinic or hospital appointments. If a check-up is needed, we help arrange one at the clinic or hospital of your choice; the check-up and payment are handled directly with them.
- Jaundice: requires a doctor’s assessment. Roseville does not provide medical assessments; we help arrange clinic or hospital appointments.
- Still in hospital: let us know so we can adjust your check-in date, subject to room availability.
- Early or late birth: booking dates are usually confirmed about 7 days before your due date.
- Straight from hospital: have a child car seat ready; the Ministry of Transport says the car seat law has applied to private vehicles since 1 January 2020. See what to bring to a confinement centre.
When to see a doctor
- Call 999 if bleeding is sudden and very heavy, or you feel faint, dizzy or have a pounding heart.
- Call 999 or go to the emergency department if one leg is painful and swollen, with breathlessness or chest pain.
- Call 999 or go to the emergency department if your baby is jaundiced in the first 24 hours, or jaundiced and very sleepy or not feeding.
- See a doctor if your temperature is over 38°C, or bleeding smells unusual or gets heavier.
- Do not drive yourself to the emergency department; ask someone to drive you or call 999 (Malaysia’s MERS 999 line).
